Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway
The Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway was purposely created to deliver in performance, LAN/WAN connectivity, routing and security for small to medium-sized branch offices. Net traffic coming in and away from a branch office will be shielded from malware such as net worms, spyware and Trojans using its complete unified, threat management features made up of anti-virus, anti-adware, anti-spyware, anti-spam, anti-phishing, web filtering, IPS, IPSec VPN and stateful firewall. All this allows the SSG 140 to be used because the sole net protection device capable of consolidating other devices and so reduce expenditure. The Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway can also be used just like a traditional router. Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway can also be used to reduce operational expenses. It's a proper fit for smaller and medium size businesses or branch offices which are concerned about unauthorized access and prevent hackers. It has a firewall throughput of 350 Mbps for as much as 500 concurrent VPN tunnels.
The Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway hardware features include eight (8) 10/100 and two (2) 10/100/1000 ports, four (4) expansion slots for WAN connectivity along with other physical interfaces. Its a mixture of a fixed LAN/WAN interfaces includes E1, T1, ISDN BRI S/T and Serial. High flexibility in routing and its interface allows it to be used for varying connectivity setups and allows for future upgrading or expansion.
The Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway uses the Screen operating system (ScreenOS) just like most of the SSG kind of firewall devices from Juniper. ScreenOS has support for IPv6 although is less sophisticated and less robust than the modular JUNOS operating system. Using the SG 520 and SG550, it is possible to migrate towards JUNOS OS but not within the SG140.
The Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway supports an enhanced selection of security features like customizable security zones, virtual router and VLANs that allow an administrator capability to make unique security policies for securing domains, simplify firewall and VPN management, increase density with the interface without having for additional hardware, lower costs of policy creation and stop unauthorized users and network attacks. Administrators can use either the command line interface (CLI), the security manager (NSM) or the WEBUI to manage the unit everywhere. What this means is improved response time, reducing the need for onsite visits and reduced operational costs.
Although the Juniper SSG 140 SH Secure Services Gateway has sufficient firewall performance at 350+ Mbps, this performance is all about doubled within the SSG520 with 650+ Mbps and even more within the SSG550 with 1+ Gbps. The SSG140 can also be less capable of handling packets at 100,000 per second while the SG520 and SG550 can handle 300,000 and 600,000 packets respectively. For IPSec VPN performance, the SG140, SG520 and SG 550 can handle 100, 300 and 500 Mbps respectively. The SG520 and SG550 also provide more I/O options. You're also capable of migrate to the more modern and complicated JUNOS OS with the SG520 and 550 but not with the SG140.
